A Gaspereau Evening at the Al Whittle Theatre

Gaspereau Press invites you to attend an evening of words and music. This year’s “Gaspereau Evening” will take place on Thursday 20 April 2006 at the Al Whittle Theatre, 450 Main Street, Wolfville, Nova Scotia. This event is in celebration of National Poetry Month, and is free and open to the public. The evening will begin at 7:00 pm and will include readings by authors Michael deBeyer, Elaine McCluskey and Peter Sanger, all of whom have newly-released titles from Gaspereau Press. This event will also feature music by Halifax-based musician Amelia Curran. Books and CDs can be purchased on-site from Box of Delights bookstore and refreshments will be available for sale by Just Us Café.
GASPEREAU PRESS is a literary publisher and printer based in Kentville, Nova Scotia. The press is committed to literature and the book arts, incorporating a range of modern and antique forms of printing and binding to create books that are distinctive in manufacture and design. Its publications have won numerous literary awards, including the Governor General’s Literary Award, the Alberta Book Award, the A.M Klein Prize, and the Alcuin Award for excellence in book design.
MICHAEL DEBEYER’s second collection of poems, Change in a Razor-backed Season, was published by Gaspereau Press in October 2005. A former resident of Fredericton, New Brunswick, deBeyer now lives in Lakeville, Nova Scotia. He is also the author of Rural Night Catalogue (Gaspereau Press, 2002).
ELAINE MCCLUSKEY’s debut short-story collection, The Watermelon Social, was recently released from Gaspereau Press. McCluskey’s stories have appeared in The Gaspereau Review, Pottersfield Portfolio and The Antigonish Review. The title story in this collection was shortlisted for the 2004 Journey Prize.
PETER SANGER’s latest collection of poetry, Aiken Drum, was published by Gaspereau Press in March. Sanger is the author of five previous collections of poetry, including Earth Moth (1991) and Arborealis (2005), a collaboration with photographer Thaddeus Holownia. His prose work White Salt Mountain: Words in Time was published in 2005 (also by Gaspereau Press). Sanger lives on a farm in South Maitland, Nova Scotia.
AMELIA CURRAN is a three-time East Coast Music Awards nominee and the founder of Gunner Records. Originally from St. John’s, Newfoundland, Curran is now based in Halifax. She has released three albums to date and is currently at work on the fourth.
